BIG SCREEN takeover at Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea

I recently finished making a short video for The Big Screen programme. Initially it was to be screened outside Southend’s Focal Point Gallery on the large screen in Elmer Square and was scheduled to coincide with an exhibition inspired by the science fiction novels of Ursula K Le. Guin, in particular 'The Lathe of Heaven'.

…but (yes you guessed it!) due to COVID-19 it has been postponed until later this year when it is deemed safe enough to encourage people to be in public spaces again. The Big Screen programme will now be accessible online via a Vimeo channel and hosted on The Focal Point website and will go live on July 15th 2020.

My work is titled ‘...do more by doing less’ (2020) from the Taoist teachings of Chuang Tzu. The footage was taken 5 days before lockdown.

You can see the full video on the FPG site.

The Other MA (TOMA) is a 12-month artist-run education model based in Southend-on-Sea. TOMA is currently the only postgraduate level art programme in Essex after all others were stopped by their host Universities. It was set up in 2016 to offer responsive, affordable, accessible art education to artists. TOMA is unaccredited in the traditional sense, but provides a programme of learning that will benefit artists in the same way. TOMA also run a project space in The Royals  Shopping Centre in Southend which is supported by funding from Arts Council England. This is a hub for group meetings and the TOMA education programme sessions alongside public exhibitions and events.
